My grandfather, who is 86 years old has told me frequently that you, so far, have been the best president during his lifetime-- that timespan by the way is from our 29th president, Warren G. Harding to present day our 44th president, Barack Obama. I wholeheartedly agree. I have nieces and nephews that never knew you.... I'm not even sure if you what you did as our president is even taught in school.
I will do what I can to teach and share with the children today why you were so loved....and hated...President Reagan, we sure do need someone like you right about now...
Prophetic words? No... just looking at the reality of socialism and communism...

Song of the week: Three Imaginary Boys, The Cure - 1979
I have always loved The Cure-- I think it was 1981 when I first remember hearing them... Boys Don't Cry... I had such a crush on Robert Smith.... before the heavy make up and huge Aqua Net hair... as he became more of a caricature, the more dark and brooding the music became... and I obediently followed. As much as I would have liked to think of myself as dark and brooding.... I could only sustain that darkness for so long... although it is a place I am quite comfortable even to this day... it gets awfully lonely... it is better to be surrounded by light and love.
So... that's enough...for this week... I can't take anymore of this... Saturday, Scooter Trash Husband and I went to see The Hangover. Oh dear gawd... this movie is so funny... so sophomoric... it's up there with Office Space, Anchorman, Wedding Singer, Wild Hogs, and There's Something About Mary-- except... even more raunchy and even more sophomoric... My sis in law would absolutely HATE this movie. Lots of guy humor... The language is repulsive and there is full frontal nudity... of men... yep... that's right...lots of boobs too... at the end of the movie. Dude from The Office, Ed Helms is too funny. I love him even more now.
All right.. so, I'm on Facebook now... trying to figure that out. I'm in to double digit friends now, so that's good and I'm not feeling completely friendless. So, anyway... there are these games... I'm not quite following the purpose of them, but apparently I am playing and gaining points.. how, I'm not quite sure... in any event... I guess I'll keep playing until I can figure out how to make them go away. However on a fun note, my niece sent me a piece of Flair... and I love it... This caused me to go and seek out more Flair...
What is Flair you ask? According to Urban Dictionary, the most popular definition is, "Buttons and other decorative accessories added to a work uniform, esp. at chain restaurants. Almost universally despised by restaurant workers and customers alike."
The common everyday person became aware of Flair after the 1999 movie, Office Space. However, I think the first movie to introduce Flair was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Mike Damone, the ticket scalper had a certain Flair... usually only one or two pieces at any given time.
I have a confession... I have my own Flair.. My Flair predates both movies... My Flair is now called vintage...(ooohhhh... ahhhh....) circa 1980.... nearly 30 years old... Back in the day, I wore my Flair on my Dad's USMC wool overcoat or on one of my many army surplus purchases... So I must thank dear Shauna for reminding me of this. Here are a few photos.... click to enlarge
Walk across the garden In the footsteps of my shadow See the lights out No one's home In amongst the statues Stare at nothing in The garden moves Can you help me?
Close my eyes And hold so tightly Scared of what the morning brings Waiting for tomorrow Never comes Deep inside The empty feeling All the night time leaves me Three imaginary boys
Slipping through the door Hear my heart beats in the hallway Echoes Round and round Inside my head Drifting up the stairs I see the steps behind me Disappearing Can you help me?
Close my eyes And hold so tightly Scared of what the morning brings Waiting for tomorrow Never comes Deep inside The empty feeling All the night time leaves me Three imaginary boys sing in my Sleep sweet child The moon will change your mind
See the cracked reflection Standing still Before the bedroom mirror Over my shoulder But no one's there Whispers in the silence Pressing close behind me Pressing close behind Can you help me? Can you help me?

Song of the week: Der fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman), Richard Wagner
The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner is a romantic opera. Wagner's earliest opera was based on the legend of the Dutch captain who defied Satan to prevent him rounding the Cape in a storm. He was condemned to sail the seas until Judgment Day, unless redeemed by a woman's love. Read more here.

Ramble:
Scooter Trash Husband and I have been hitting the history books of late. We've been watching lots of documentaries all the while trying to keep up with the rapid pace of all that is occurring today. Americans have been witness to extraordinary times. My grandparents stand in disbelief as events unfold. I can not imagine their point of perspective on this.. For God's sake... they fought this form of tyranny 60 years ago. We have forgotten already? There is no doubt we are marching towards Socialism. There is an apathy and indifference that has taken hold of the people. Who can forget the young woman during the elections that believed when then President-elect Obama would get into office, she need not worry about paying for gas for her car or her mortgage? In observing young people today... those that have just entered the work force do not go beyond what is absolutely required to perform their job duties. And even younger people (those in high school)do not see anything wrong with spreading the wealth... Yes... yes indeed.. timing is everything.
In looking at Socialism and Communism throughout history, there is this slow ooze of change... if ever so slight... for a very long time... little things really.. nothing of any consequence or real substance but then all of a sudden and virtually overnight with a fury of lightning speed major changes occur and for the common working soul it is overwhelming and there are so many things happening simultaneously, it is hard to keep up with all of it.
What are the "slow oozes of change"? Well, seatbelt laws and smoking bans would have been unheard of in the 1950's. Sure sure.... we can say we didn't know the safety and health risks... ok... what about baggy pants laws? If some dopey goofy kid wants to walk around with his pants hanging down to his hips and his parents are too stupid and pathetic and apathetic to say no... who am I to dictate what is fashion? I can always say no--- no shirt, no shoes, no baggy pants in my establishment... Why does this have to be mandated by government? What about Zero tolerance laws? Are you kidding me? Yah... the 16 year old girl with Midol gets expelled from school... unreal... What about neighborhood association rules? You know the ones I'm talking about... You as a HOMEOWNER can not paint your house purple with pink polka dots... or You as a HOMEOWNER have to have a particular type of mailbox or have to store your trash cans in a particular area... or You as a HOMEOWNER can not have 150 pink tacky plastic flamingos in your front yard (we have 2 in our front yard so that's different... thanks Rob and Jo) or You as a HOMEOWNER can not put your 4 beater cars up on cinder blocks in your front yard... Sure... these are all to keep the neighborhood free of looking like Hillbilly Heaven... but what about You as the HOMEOWNER not being permitted to place a flag pole in your front yard? What? You can't fly Old Glory? No common sense in anything anymore... Has anyone checked the Constitution on this? Does anyone realize these are all UNCONSTITUTIONAL? But because, we are more interested in aesthetics... well... we'll just let that slide...
So while the masses are entertained by Panem and Circuses such as the Paris Hilton's and Perez Hilton's and Michael Jackson's (or err uh... ex-Michael Jackson's) we have handed our banks over to the Federal Government... We have handed over 2 car manufacturers to the Federal Government... The House of Representatives has passed cap and tax.... Honestly... on Global Warming? We are on the verge of having nationalized health care. How many Executive Orders has President Obama issued? How many Czars has President Obama appointed because there were not enough seats at his Cabinet table? What exactly does a "Special Master of Compensation (Pay Czar)" do? All the while the undertow of becoming a Godless nation continues. The bias of mainstream media is blatant... I'm not writing about Democrats vs. Republicans... Like a growing number of conservatives I have little use for any politicians. I'm writing about conservative vs. liberal, right vs. wrong, good vs. evil, real science vs. junk science, religion vs. new age.... I'm talking about common sense. I'm talking about the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. AHHHH!!! I'm so frustrated!!

An interesting timeline of the rise of Nationalsozialismus (Nationalized Socialism) can be found at Shoah Education.
Earlier this week, President Obama spoke about his ongoing plans for the economy at Georgetown University. Since I am a Right Wing Extremist, please rest assured, I find his plan to be a pile of dung...
What I found disturbing was the request made by the White House to cover the monogram of Jesus Christ in Gaston Hall where President Obama spoke.
Georgetown University hid a religious inscription representing the name of Jesus during President Obama's address there Tuesday, FOXNews.com has confirmed, because White House staff asked the school to cover up all religious symbols and signs while the president was on stage.
The monogram IHS, whose letters spell out the name of Jesus, and which normally perches above the stage in Gaston Hall where the president spoke, was covered over with what appeared to be black wood during the address. Read the rest here.
Now, Gaston Hall is an auditorium. When looking for photos, I found some pictures of one of my favorite bands, XTC performing in Gaston Hall back in 1980. But in all the images of the stage area I could find the monogram was not blocked out by plywood.
The reason the White House provided this request to Georgetown was "The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they've done for other policy speeches," she wrote. "Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn't high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context." More here.
It was said on a local talk radio program that we should not worry about such petty matters such as this... this is the "small stuff" and there are many bigger issues that the Obama Administration should be held accountable.
I disagree emphatically with this. We must look at the cumulative effect of comments made, actions taken and see the pattern for what it is.
We know President Obama's history. He said this in 2007. We know his spiritual leader was Jeremiah Wright. We know that on his first international apology tour as President he told folks in Turkey,
"Although ... we have a very large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation, or a Jewish nation, or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."Read the article here.
My question to President Obama--- On what foundation or rock are those ideals and values set upon?
This country was founded based on Judeo-Christian values... to deny this is to not be intellectually honest. So again, I ask... what ideals and what values if not Judeo-Christian?
In light of President Obama's visit to Turkey and his apologetic bent over stance... I think now is a good time for a reminder why we must stay vigilant against radical fundamentalist Muslims. I just read this quick piece over at Big Hollywood.
"Saturday, I saw the most honest and courageous politician on earth give a speech about Islam’s threat to the civilized world after a screening of his short film, “Fitna.” It was just another reminder of how important strong leadership is in a dangerous world. In light of that, it is disheartening to see that the greatest and most powerful country in the history of the world, The United States of America, goes small against jihad and big against its own citizens, post 9/11. And further, that Washington P.C. is led by the weakest leaders it has ever had at a time when it needs the strongest." Read the rest of the piece here.
Now... go grab a night cap and for the next 16 minutes and 45 seconds watch this short film.

Have you seen Clara's Depression Era Cooking on YouTube? This gal is 93 years old. I just discovered her... and I love her - There is going to be a DVD released soon. The best part is that her grandson has taken this opportunity to record his family's history. I wish I had paid more attention to the stories that were told when I was a kid... Here is Clara's website and here is her blog. It isn't just the recipes, it's the quick little tidbits and how to's-- turning off the heat to save gas and money... We are so spoiled.
So, I was at work this week and a co-worker told me that her husband had been laid off from his job. She was quite upset, which is understandable. The part that annoyed me was that she said it was completely unexpected... WHHAAAATTTT? She went on to say that they were going to have to cut some corners, consolidate bills, not eat out as much, bundle their cell phones, and my favorite? She is going to look into this "whole thing of getting her mortgage paid." She had heard that if you stop paying your mortgage, the government will step in and offer assistance... She was able to calmly rationalize that she and her husband had worked hard enough and had paid into the system and were entitled.... So, "this mortgage thing" appears to be viewed as a benefit... like unemployment? Yah.... good times... good effing times...
Then this weekend I go visit my Mom. She has been utterly depressed and can not shake this funk she is in. She has worked long hard hours her entire life. We lived in abject poverty and never took a handout. As you have read here before, through sheer willpower and muscle, my mom overcame all obstacles and now leads a more than comfortable life, but in an instant, her investments - the fruits of her labor gone. Oh and according to President Obama... she is rich!
Once there lived an ant and a grasshopper in a grassy meadow.
All day long the ant would work hard, collecting grains of wheat from the farmer's field far away. She would hurry to the field every morning, as soon as it was light enough to see by, and toil back with a heavy grain of wheat balanced on her head. She would put the grain of wheat carefully away in her larder, and then hurry back to the field for another one. All day long she would work, without stop or rest, scurrying back and forth from the field, collecting the grains of wheat and storing them carefully in her larder.
The grasshopper would look at her and laugh. 'Why do you work so hard, dear ant?' he would say. 'Come, rest awhile, listen to my song. Summer is here, the days are long and bright. Why waste the sunshine in labour and toil?'
The ant would ignore him, and head bent, would just hurry to the field a little faster. This would make the grasshopper laugh even louder. 'What a silly little ant you are!' he would call after her. 'Come, come and dance with me! Forget about work! Enjoy the summer! Live a little!' And the grasshopper would hop away across the meadow, singing and dancing merrily.
Summer faded into autumn, and autumn turned into winter. The sun was hardly seen, and the days were short and grey, the nights long and dark. It became freezing cold, and snow began to fall.
The grasshopper didn't feel like singing any more. He was cold and hungry. He had nowhere to shelter from the snow, and nothing to eat. The meadow and the farmer's field were covered in snow, and there was no food to be had. 'Oh what shall I do? Where shall I go?' wailed the grasshopper. Suddenly he remembered the ant. 'Ah - I shall go to the ant and ask her for food and shelter!' declared the grasshopper, perking up. So off he went to the ant's house and knocked at her door. 'Hello ant!' he cried cheerfully. 'Here I am, to sing for you, as I warm myself by your fire, while you get me some food from that larder of yours!'
The ant looked at the grasshopper and said, 'All summer long I worked hard while you made fun of me, and sang and danced. You should have thought of winter then! Find somewhere else to sing, grasshopper! There is no warmth or food for you here!' And the ant shut the door in the grasshopper's face.
It is wise to worry about tomorrow today.
That was then... Today even if the ant has done everything right, I.E. saved money, invested appropriately, never living beyond her means but the ant makes more than $250,000.00 she is required to bear the burden of feeding all the lazy @ss grasshoppers...
Dr. Walter Williams discusses the legitimate role of government in a free society. This program took place at a National Journalism Center seminar. NJC is a program of Young America’s Foundation.
A week of travel and another week of that pressure on my chest... you know...impending doom... end of the world as we know it... So, we'll try a little Van Morrison and see if that doesn't cut through the funk...
Just an observation from this past week - In my travels, which consisted of 3 separate airports, I did not notice as many servicemen. In fact, I only saw one soldier at CVG - Cincinnati. However, I did notice a lot more dogs--- doing the work of sniffing for drugs and other paraphernalia.
Connecticut loves President Obama... I was part of a 2 day intensive meeting to improve functionality in one of our departments. You wouldn't believe me if I told you. But, I suspect we are broken in basic functionality just like every other manufacturing facility out there. In speaking with the hourly folks, no details were provided, just that President Obama is great and going to give the people back what is rightfully theirs.... mm...kay... Wow... So we are going to borrow $787,000,000,000 from who.. I guess China. That money will then be given to organizations that will supposedly stimulate growth in the way of new jobs. And in the mean time, the Dilbert down the street is still living beyond his means.... and since my husband and I are responsible U.S. citizens... we are afforded the "opportunity" to pay Dilbert's way, plus maintain our own lifestyle... that's great.
The manufacturing facility I visited this past week is having a spring shutdown-- 1 week. This is unprecedented, but will prevent layoffs-- or at least delay layoffs. I work for a good company... We are lean... We are very lean. A few weeks ago, the company got rid of dead weight... those that add nothing... the slackers... the lazy ones... There are a few more that could probably be cut loose... but for now... we are trying to keep manufacturing moving and doing our best to sell...
Oh this sucks.
Now... if you'll be so kind to excuse me... I'm going back to my closet to hold myself in the fetal position and rock myself back to sleep.
So, like the rest of the country I have had the opportunity to get used to having a new President. He is not wasting anytime pushing toward that goal of socialism...new world order... and that is upsetting although no one should be surprised. I have already sent two notes to Senator McConnell... In any event, I have been perusing the recently remodeled Whitehouse.gov and I am already weary. I have spent most of my time going through the agenda section. So far it is nothing more than his regurgitated campaign stump speeches. For instance, on Iraq:
Iraq President Obama and Vice President Biden will responsibly end the war in Iraq so that we can renew our military strength, dedicate more resources to the fight against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan, and invest in our economy at home. The Obama-Biden plan will help us succeed in Iraq by transitioning to Iraqi control of their country.
Judgment You Can Trust In 2002, Obama had the judgment and courage to speak out against going to war, and to warn of "an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs, and undetermined consequences." He and Joe Biden are fully committed to ending the war in Iraq.
On Homeland Security... this little bullet point caught my attention:
Win the Battle of Ideas: Defeat al Qaeda in the battle of ideas by returning to an American foreign policy consistent with America's traditional values, and work with moderates within the Islamic world to counter al Qaeda propaganda. Establish a $2 billion Global Education Fund to work to eliminate the global education deficit and offer an alternative to extremist schools.
I found these two diddies under Additional Issues
Faith In June of 2006, then-Senator Obama delivered what was called the most important speech on religion and politics in 40 years. Speaking before an evangelical audience, then-Senator Obama candidly discussed his own religious conversion and doubts, and the need for a deeper, more substantive discussion about the role of faith in American life.
Senator Obama also laid down principles for how to discuss faith in a pluralistic society, including the need for religious people to translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values during public debate. In December 2006, President Obama discussed the importance of faith in the global battle against AIDS.
Do you know what those principles are?
Sportsmen President Obama did not grow up hunting and fishing, but he recognizes the great conservation legacy of America's hunters and anglers and has great respect for the passion that hunters and anglers have for their sports. Were it not for America's hunters and anglers, including the great icons like Theodore Roosevelt and Aldo Leopold, our nation would not have the tradition of sound game management, a system of ethical, science-based game laws and an extensive public lands estate on which to pursue the sport. The President and Vice President recognize that we must forge a broad coalition if we are to address the great conservation challenges we face. America's hunters and anglers are a key constituency that must take an active role and have a powerful voice in this coalition.
Gotta love that... the 2nd Amendment has been reduced to this... I suspect this will be one of his "quiet topics" to address. Note to self: send more money to the NRA.
The economic turmoil our nation is in does not appear to have any means of being rectified. Even if we cut taxes and eliminate all spending... I still can not wrap my mind around the actual numbers of our deficit.
So, our economy will collapse and it will be rationalized that we need to join forces with our neighbors to the north and south and have a one money system...
I am so disturbed by everything I am reading. The section on defense is quite interesting. Why does President Obama want to increase the size or our military? How unusual for a liberal... don't liberals hate war... are they not pacifists? Yes, I am suspicious and yes... I know I sound like a conspiracy theory nut case...I am falling into a cavern of pessimism...
So, what's a girl to do? Today, I'm going to put my head in the sand... I am taking a queue from one of my favorite bloggers and I intend to escape into fantasy world...Going with the girls to see Grease at the Aronoff! Yes. Grease is the word...
It is a rare occasion for my Scootertrash Husband to write a post... He has offered his thoughts on Reverend Lowery and poet Elizabeth Alexander.... EW.
I am an independent, patriotic, conservative with a passion for fine art.
I'm devoted to my husband and all the things we find important- our time together, our family, our country.
I'm forever a pessimist, but doing my best to change that.
